Ambassador Bob F. Jalang'o

Mr. Bob Jalang'o, former Ambassador of Kenya to the United Nations, initially served in the private sector while based in Nairobi as Information Technology Manager for several years for six countries in Eastern and Central Africa, prior to venturing in politics and being elected Member of Parliament (Kenya's legislature) in his native country of Kenya. During his one five year term, he traveled extensively in Africa and Europe to represent Kenya at Commonwealth Parliamentary conferences; negotiations in Brussels between European Union countries and African and Caribbean nations, including being elected to chair the powerful parliamentary watch dog Public Accounts committee.

In July 1993, he was appointed Kenya's Ambassador to Zambia, Malawi and Botswana (countries in Central Africa) before being appointed to Ambassador to Italy, Greece and Poland in April 1997. Based in Rome, he had further responsibility as Permanent Representative to UN's Food and Agricultural Organization with headquarters in Rome. In this latter capacity, he was also responsible for activities of World Food Program and International Fund for Agriculture and Development.

From November 2000 to August 2003, he served as Kenya's Ambassador/Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York where he also served Chairman of UN's Economic and Social Council's (ECOSOC) Working Group on Informatics.

Following the completion of his diplomatic contract with Kenya government, Ambassador Jalang'o acted as a Consultant/Advisor for two US-based international corporations on new projects in Africa. He continues to consult for private and not-for-profit organizations; engages in public speaking on African economic and social issues including the role of the United Nations in global affairs; and supports a project for the rehabilitation of orphaned children from HIV/AIDS families in Kenya.
